Shadows and Lace
oil on canvas, 40" x 40"
I have already interpreted the little church in my Santa Fauve Collection in the painting Magic Dirt--Sacred Land. The secondary theme of this painting is trees (with the Santuario de Chimayo as the primary focus). I chose to highlight the 'lacy' qualities presented in the bare branch silhouettes of the leafless tress during cold weather. Another dramatic accent, no matter the season, is the shadowing of the trees--even more detailed during times of leafless winter.
Guadalupe District Wall
oil on canvas, 42" x 42"
A few years ago, a “phantom” painter went around the older areas of Santa Fe late at night with stencils, spray paint and brushes and painted Indian blanket murals on random adobe and stucco walls. The painter has never been identified. Most people left the paintings on their walls and everyone continues to enjoy this unusual and aesthetic form of 'graffiti'.
